Of totality the jazz musicians, Sun Ra was apparently the most controversial. He did not frame it easy for people to take him ceremoniously, for he surrounded his adventurous pleasing succession of sounds with costumes and mythology that the sum of ~ units looked backward toward ancient Egypt and bold into science fiction. In addition, Ra documented his body of knowledge of harmonical sounds in very moving fashion on his Saturn label, usually not listing recording dates and giving inappropriate personnel information, so one could not plainly tell how advanced some of his innovations...
